Something about Internet Cafes in Myanmar

Well, a few weeks ago, I wrote about blooming of internet cafes in Yangon. Well, there are now many new internet cafes in Yangon, and it is easier for the users to use internet at cheaper price. However, the problme with all of them is that, as there are frequent electricity outbreaks, they have to use their own generators for most of the time. Some of the internet cafes cannot keep up with the fuel price so they have to close when the electricity is cut off. Today when I was using at one internet cafe, they said they were going to close the shop as the generator was very hot because it had been running non stop for nearly 6 hours. Another one near by was also closed. The one I am using now is also running with the generator. They said it is not very profitable so they had to raise the fee now.

Buying Electronics and Computers online in Thailand

Well, it is really difficult to find the price of something online in Thailand. The vendors usually don't have online presence in Thailand. If they ever have a website, they are usually poorly designed and lack any online purchase function. But I recently found a website from Hardware House , a reputable Thai computer and accessories vendor. Although they don't sell things online, they have a list of their available products with price list. You can find many Hardware House vendor shops at Panthip Plaza in Bangkok.

Fire at MBK, Bangkok, Thailand

Yesterday afternoon around 5.30 PM, I went to MBK, a famous shopping complex in Bangkok near Siam Square. To my surprise, the center was closed! I first noticed the linking bridges connecting the National Stadium BTS sky train station and the MBK center was deserted. Usually, it was packed with people. Then I found out that the center was closed. We thought something happened at the center but there was no police, no ambulance, no fire fighter. Just closed. Then we found out about the fire. The fire started around noon at 7th floor in a Japanese restaurant. All the shoppers and vendors were safely evacuated and fire contained. Fortunately no one was injured. Liquid ban on all flights from Thailand

Thailand will start enforcing new restrictions on liquids, aerosols and gels in hand carried luggage on all commercial flights departing from airports nationwide in the next few weeks, according to a report in Bangkok Post news paper. This is in accordance with the suggestions by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), following the discovery of a terrorist plot in Britain last year. South Korea and Hong Kong have already implimented such restrictions, while Singapore will start restrictions on May 8. The limit is on all liquids, aerosols and gels in containers more than the maximum capacity of 100 ml. Even if the containers are not full, they will not be permitted to carry in a hand luggage. This include those bought from airport duty free shops, including alcohols and perfumes. Liquids in containers less than a maximum capacity of 100 ml will still be permitted to hand carry.

Bone stem cells turned into primitive sperm cells!

According to this New Scientist report, scientists at University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK had turned bone marrow stem cells into primitive sperm cells. They obtained bone marrow stem cells from four adult men who were about to undergo bone marrow transplantation and turned them in cells that are precursors of human sperm cells. So what does that mean? Scientist believe, although it is just the start, one day we might be able to turn them into functioning sperm cells, thus helping infertile couples having babies. They even think it might be possible for women to produce their own sperm cells, making it possible for lesbian couples to have children. However, the biggest obstacle is to turn these primitive sperm cells into real functioning cells, and that will take a long time to be successful. Technorati Tag : Health , Infertility

Do coffee and cigarettes protect against Parkinson's disease?

Oh my God! Finally I think I found a reason to start smoking. According to this news report from New Scientist, drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes might protect an individual from getting Parkinson's disease, a disease of older people with loss of memory and coordination. A team of researchers did a study comparing the Parkinson's patients and their non Parkinson closed relatives on their habit on smoking and coffee drinking. They found that the patients are more likely to be non smokers and drink less coffee than their non-diseased siblings. So next time your mother or your girlfriend asks you to quit smoking, you have a reason to tell them why you should smoke. But wait a minute, there are concrete evidences that smoking has a strong relation, a very strong one, with various kinds of diseases, including heart disease, peripheral vascular diseases and lung cancer. So you either have Parkinson or heart attack. It is your choice. Technorati Tag : Health , Parkinson , Smoki

Yaw Region – A Place famous for witchcraft

Yaw region, a region comprises of Gantgaw, Hteeling and Saw Townships, is a region traditionally renown for, or more correctly, notorious for witchcraft. Many Burmese believe that people in Yaw region are masters of witchcraft very well, and they are afraid of the Yaw people. However, I believe these are all false rumors, or rural myth. The region is situated between the two mountain ranges – Chin Hills in the west and Ponetaung Hills in the east. Because of a lot of rivers and streams flowing in these regions, farms here are generally quite fertile and productive, and the people are quite well off. The roads to this region are quite rough. Most are just dirt roads. You also have to pass the Pongtaung and Pongnya ranges on these dirt roads, making the trip quite dangerous. You can take a bus from Mandalay to Gantgaw, the region's capital. The trip will take the whole day. On your way you will pass Bahin village where many fossils were found. There are actually not much to see in Ga

Silent Ring Tone

Do you know that some of the ring tones cannot be heard by some older people? Because older people have impaired hearing in the high frequency range, they cannot hear high frequency ring tones while teenagers have no difficulty hearing them. The frequency of the ring tone is said to be around 17 kilohertz. A British security firm first created this high frequency sound and named it the Mosquito. The purpose of the Mosquito device is to produce sounds at a very high frequency, so as to make those teenagers who hang around in stores go away. The Mosquito sound was reinvented as a ring tone, and it eventually became popular among teenagers. They use it to communicate with each other during school classes. Because teachers cannot hear the ring tone, they can send SMS to each other during classes. Technorati Tag : Mobile , Phone
