OK, finally I bought a DSLR. The one I bought was Olympus Evolt E-510 . It is a 10 MP digital SLR and comes with two kit lenses - 14-42 mm and 40-150 mm. The camera is quite sturdy and well built and the quality of the kit lens are excellent. I bought it from Big Camera , a famous digital camera retailer in Thailand. It has been a long time since I last posted in my blog. I was quite busy these days and cannot think of anything to write. I don't want to write anything if I am not in the mood. Sorry for my absence. I have just bought a new DSLR camera and is testing the camera. I already took a few photos with the new camera and will share some of my photos with you readers. And I will be posting a few articles in my blog within a few days. Here are some of the things I planned to do this month. 1. Just bought a new DSLR camera. So I will be taking some photos and upload them to my flickr. 2. Planning to travel to Singapore next week. Just one week. I will take many photos there. 3. If I have free time, I will finish the novels I bought last month: Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice and Allis in the wonderland. This is a favorite Burmese food. Originally from Chinese community in Myanmar, it has become a popular food in cities. Called “ Wet-Thar-Dote-Htoe ”, it literally means “ Pork on Stick ”. Various parts of the pig are cooked with soy-bean sauce and seasoning. The parts include carious internal organs like intestine, liver, kidney, spleen, heart, lungs, tongue as well as meat, skin and cartilage. They are then cut into small pieces, and put on tiny bamboo sticks and served. The vendor usually sells on the road side, with all the food served on a large metal pan with charcoal stove underneath. Customers sit around the pan and eat the food dipped in sauce. The meat is really delicious. If you want to try one, just walk in the streets of downtown Yangon. There are many shops there. This is an update of the previous post I posted last year. I get the photo only now so I added the photo of wet-ther-dote-htoe and posted again.

Well, exactly one month after Cyclone Nargis hit Yangon, the electricity is coming back. That is a great news. But the land line phone is still down, at least to my home. The situation is returning to normal. Prices are up but stabilizing now. And because of extensive repair works, both private and public, the laborers are getting many jobs. My father told me that it is sometimes difficult to find workers to do repair jobs.

Cyclone Nargis Destruction

The following is an email from a friend who actually visited the cyclone hit Bogalay in Irrawaddy delta of Myanmar. Actually I havn't seen much at Bogalay as the Thidagu monestry is located at the entrance of Bogalay. But it's not on the main road that we hv to go abt 15min towards the river. The monestry is built on the bank of the river that they distribute all the materials with boats to the affected villeges that cannot be reached by cars. The route is like Nyaung Done---Ma Au Bin---Kyeik Lat----Phyar Bone---Bo Ga Lay. After we passed Kyeik Lat there are lines of people on both sides of the road hoping for some donations by passing by cars until we reach Bogalay. I think there will be more than 10,000 people. Those people previously lived in the paddy fields on the left and right side of the road.
